On December 5th, 2015, senior of CA&Hills Kindergarten went out under the leading of teachers and had a special class, shopping in the supermarket. The different experience from classroom learning undoubtedly made the kids excited. when arriving at the supermarket, teachers assigned a task “only ten yuan for one person, and see who would make full use of ten yuan”.

It was a challenging experience for the innocent kids who did not understand the behavior of currency exchanging well. They were still not familiar with the concept of money and didn’t know what the sum of money depended on, the number or the denomination? In order to make the kids learn about this social behavior, teachers transferred the class into supermarket. View from the scene, little Hillsers were clever indeed.

After receiving money distributed by teachers, little Hillsers pinched pennies and finally set a shopping list for themselves. Undoubtedly, kids ran to what they favored at first, sweet candies, crispy cookies and the colorful toys and so on. During the activity, with the kind reminding of the salesperson, kids got to realize that the things chose was over the limitation. So they took out some little items from the basket.  Under the guidance of the teachers, all the kids purchased what they were fond of within ten yuan.

In this shopping experience, teachers brought the IB theory of CA&Hills Education into teaching practice, teaching out of the kindergarten in the form of group teaching. We knew that kids learned something different from such social role-playing experience. Children were polite to people when entering the supermarket. They considered how to spend the limited money buying what they liked. They were just like an adult. What is worth mentioning is the cooperation between kids. They would ask their little friends to get the money of each other together and did the shopping.

Kids have got a new understanding towards money through this lesson, and at the same time improved the social skills and teamwork ability.
